The Disdance workshop at KS3 level will give pupils of all abilities the chance to enjoy dance in a way never before experienced. By using nothing but our hands and feet to create sound adds a new dimension to dance which is both engaging and fun.
At KS3 level, the Disdance workshop is fast and furious. Teaching up to 120 pupils at one time, the workshop takes on a pace, which takes no prisoners and is both immediately engaging and challenging,
The set routine
The set routine is taught en mass to all students, and is designed to give each group a good introduction to the Disdance technique. This routine can be altered as we progress, depending on the ability level, enthusiasm and potential of each class. Disdance holds high expectations of each students abilities, and the set routine will only ever be altered to become more challenging. Due to the repetitive nature of the learning process, even the most reluctant, unconfident or rhythmically challenged student will find themselves picking up the set routine.
Group choreography
After learning the set routine, it will be obvious to the students how the Disdance technique works. The class will be divided into smaller groups and set the challenge of choreographing their own routines. It will be up to each group to decide which movements and rhythms they decide to use in their group routines, but the in which they move as a group is set for them. This includes moving using:
• Unison
• Canons
• Solos
• Individual rhythms
• Group rhythms
• Lifts
The performance
As dance is a performance art, the children are encouraged to perform throughout the workshop for each other, and if possible at the end of the day for a larger audience of pupils. This performance can incorporate both the set routine and the group choreography, as well as a performance by Peter. After which certificates are given for good work.
